The hike started out easy enough on a concrete sidewalk....it was short lived. Pretty soon we were on a narrow, gravelly, rutted out path that meandered back and forth on steep grades. I had to stop frequently and even stopped to use my inhaler once. Thanks to Zumba, my legs and strength were holding up great but my asthma acted up and had me having to stop frequently to catch my breath. Finally about 3/4 of the way up, I gave up. I sat on the bench in the shade and sent Denny and the camera on up to the top. He said he had to climb up about 80 steps in a very narrow tunnel. Then he had to climb up a spiral staircase to the very top. He made some incredible pictures. You could see the whole island in every direction. So sad I couldn't make it.
We made our way back down very carefully. We were trembling and decided to take the taxi to Waikiki......wise decision .
After being dropped off in front of the Outrigger where we stayed 40 years ago, we walked to the beach front and had a table for two right on the beach at Duke's. He is very famous in Hawaii. I think he was a champion surfer. Everywhere we have been, everyone is so friendly and helpful....really nice.
Well, we walked on the beach, made pictures and decided to headed back to the ship. Denny left his hat at home and I have already lost my 2nd pair of sunglasses, so we walked thru a marketplace and purchased new ones. We headed to the bus stop and rode the bus back close to the ship. Fun day but we went to our cabins and both took Ibuprophen and passed out for a couple of hours. We have a big night.....sunset dinner cruise on a catamaran.
It was good touching base with home today.
